Tottenham Hotspur have fallen to their first loss at their new stadium as West Ham United triumphed 1-0 over Mauricio Pochettino’s side in Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff at N17.

Spurs enjoyed several decent efforts in the first half against the East Londoners, with Son Heung-min forcing a save from Hammers goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski after being put through by Dele Alli.

Lucas Moura then rifled wide from range, while Christian Eriksen was thwarted by the Fabianski after Son had blocked Issa Diop’s attempted clearance, and so the first half ended goalless.

After the interval, however, Mauricio Pochettino’s side fell behind after Marko Arnautovic lofted the ball into the area for Michail Antonio, who chested down before volleying past Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham’s best chance to draw level came in stoppage time when Vincent Janssen saw his header cleared off the line by Fabian Balbuena, but in the end Manuel Pellegrini’s charges consigned the hosts to their first defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Injured Spurs talisman Harry Kane was watching proceedings at the ground and his expression in the photo pretty much sums up how the day went and how the fans feel:

The result leaves Tottenham third, four points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal, who go to Leicester City on Sunday.
