The Swiss defender has been out of action since the opening game of the season.

Leeds United have confirmed that their Swiss defender Gaetano Berardi is back in first-team training with the club by posting a photo showing him back in action on their official Twitter account.

Berardi was taken off just 22 minutes into the opening game of the season v QPR with yet another injury problem.

The 28-year-old’s Elland Road career has been blighted by niggling injury trouble and he would have been hoping to have put such woes behind him.

Berardi has not played since then but is now seemingly on the road to recovery.

However, Garry Monk did confirm yesterday that Berardi will still need more time before he returns to first-team action.

The versatile defender is expected back in two weeks’ time, at least, as he needs to build up his fitness:

Berardi will certainly have a challenge getting back in the first-team at Leeds.

Luke Ayling has performed well at right-back since his arrival and Charlie Taylor is unlikely to get dropped either. Even Lewie Coyle will fancy rivalling him for the right-back slot.

But Leeds fans will be pleased to see the tireless Swiss back in action.
