Bruce helped Sheffield Wednesday to promotion 12 years ago, but could be heading to their city rivals Sheffield United.
Sheffield United have uploaded a gallery of images from Tuesday morning’s training session on social media.
However, in doing so, have the Blades inadvertently shared the identity of a potential summer signing?
On first glance, there is little unusual about any of the photographs, but if you look harder at the one in which Billy Sharp is prominent, you’ll see a former Sheffield Wednesday player – Alex Bruce – in the background.
Bruce, who helped the Owls to promotion from League One 12 years ago, is currently a free agent after leaving Hull City.
And with Sheffield United thought to be in the market for at least one new centre-back this summer, it would be little surprise were the Blades to take a closer look at the 32-year-old.
United have been linked with moves for Ryan Bennett and Ethan Ebanks-Landell this summer, although the former recently linked up with the former Blades loan star at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The son of Aston Villa boss, Steve, Bruce Jr has also spent time at Birmingham City, Ipswich Town and Leeds United, and is a veteran of 192 Championship appearances.

He appeared nine times for Sheffield Wednesday, but was later part of a Hull side which beat the Owls to promotion to the Premier League.
Would Bruce be a good signing for Sheffield United?
