Former Rangers defender David Bates has begun work with his new side.

David Bates made a surprise decision to quit Rangers earlier this summer and join Hamburg.
While Steven Gerrard’s Rangers train in Spain for their pre-season, Bates has now begun his training with his new side.
He posted an image on Twitter last night in his new colours for the German side.
Hamburg were relegated at the end of last season so Bates faces his first season in Germany in the second division.
That will not have been part of his original plan when he signed with Hamburg but it may make his transition easier, not having to go up against giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Bates is stiill just 21 and has signed a four year deal with Hamburg.
Halfway through that deal will it only begin to be clear whether he has made a mistake or a smart choice.
