Could the Newcastle skipper return against the Blues?
Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini was in full flow in Thursday afternoon’s training session, as he prepared to return to first-team action against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
The Argentine had returned to training last week but has yet to feature since suffering a calf injury around a month ago, although that could change this weekend.
The Magpies are without a win in two games, which sounds rather unfamiliar following a six-game winning run in all competitions that came out of nowhere. Alan Pardew’s side did, however, come up against a tough West Ham United side, before earning a point against a determined Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.
A daunting challenge faces them on Saturday, though , as Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten league-leaders travel to St James’ Park. But, should skipper Coloccini return, spirits will no doubt be raised in the Newcastle dressing room ahead of the Chelsea clash.
The Argentine had previously struggled for form on Tyneside but has become an integral part of the side in recent times and Pardew stated that the side missed his presence at Burnley. The Magpies boss also stated, however, that Coloccini’s return to match action is not certain due to his low fitness levels.
