Everton had been linked to Domagoj Vida

Everton have missed out on the signing of free agent defender Domagoj Vida.
Vida is signing a contract with Besiktas, with his deal at Dinamo Kiev expiring at the end of this month, the Turkish club confirmed on Twitter.
According to a report last month from Croatian news outlet 24 Sata, Everton were set to offer Vida a contract in a bid to sign him up on a free transfer.
Vida is a centre-back with more than 50 caps for Croatia at international level, and has spent the last six seasons in Ukraine.
The 28-year-old would have been an astute signing for the Toffees on a free transfer but it is understandable why he chose Besiktas instead, given their involvement in the Champions League knockout stages next month.
The recent return to form of Ashley Williams has calmed Everton’s need for another centre-back, with manager Sam Allardyce providing a new defensive stability to the side, with Mason Holgate also impressing.
