Everton’s Seamus Coleman looked shocked following a challenge by Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen.
The Republic of Ireland’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages of Euro 2016 suffered a blow on Saturday afternoon.
Martin O’Neill’s side lost 3-0 to a star-studded Belgium side which finally clicked following their 2-0 defeat by Italy in the opening match of Group E.
Second-half goals from Romelu Lukaku, either side of Axel Witsel’s header, did the damage to an Irish side who now sit bottom of the group ahead of their final fixture with Italy on Wednesday.
It was a first half which threw up little by way of entertainment, but Seamus Coleman’s reaction to a foul by Jan Vertonghen was perhaps one of them.
The Everton right-back had beaten his Tottenham Hotspur counterpart – playing at left-back – but a cynical Vertonghen dragged Coleman to the ground by grabbing a chunk of his shirt to prevent an Irish attack.
And the Everton man’s expression says it all.
The duo could well come up against each other again on August 13 after Tottenham were paired with their Everton counterparts on the opening day of the Premier League season.
