The Tottenham Hotspur winger has been out of action for months and some fans even hinted he had played his last match for the club.
Tottenham Hotspur’s players are back for the start of pre-season training, and among them was Argentina international Erik Lamela.
Spurs fans would have been forgiven for double-taking after seeing the 25-year-old back alongside the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, but despite reportedly being set to miss the start of the new campaign with a hop injury, as reported by Sky Sports last month, he has arrived, no doubt hoping to make an impact when he is fit to return to action.
Lamela’s ongoing absence was a source of much conjecture last season, with his absence beginning in October, and no sign of a return despite regular social media updates suggesting the player was back in training.
The same photograph did the rounds for months, only for Lamela to ultimately miss the rest of the season and for Tottenham to develop their game accordingly, finishing the season second in the Premier League and with plenty to look forward to this time round.
The Argentine has been a divisive figure since he first arrived in North London, but there is no doubt he fits into Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s system well and he wil surely be welcomed back with open arms this summer.
Only time will tell how long it is until he returns to the Tottenham first-team, but the fact that he is in London at all speaks volumes.
