Of all the Tottenham Hotspur outgoings over the past 12 months, Juan Foyth might be the one that makes the North Londoners look the worst.
The Argentine defender joined Villarreal from Spurs on a permanent basis last summer, having impressed during a loan spell at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Jose Mourinho’s arrival to North London was a death knell for the young and promising defender who Mauricio Pochettino had brought to Tottenham.
And well, it’s safe to say that a lot of Lilywhites supporters might have preferred to keep him.
That’s because Foyth helped the Spanish outfit to the semi-finals of the Champions League this past season, ultimately losing to Liverpool.
It was a brilliant season for the 24-year-old and although he wasn’t always popular among Tottenham fans, owing to his capacity to concede penalties, he did leave some friends behind in the English capital.
We know this because Spurs defender Eric Dier has been reunited with the South American while on holiday.
Earlier in June, Dier caught up with former teammate Mousa Dembele, who left for China three-and-a-half years ago.
You could argue it was time for Dembele to leave – though some might argue he still hasn’t been adequately replaced – but Foyth is only getting started and time will tell whether it was a good decision to offload him.
On current evidence, the answer is no.
