England beat Malta 2-0 at Wembley on Saturday night for a second successive win in World Cup qualifying.
Gareth Southgate’s first of his four-match stewardship ended in victory last night, courtesy of two first-half goals.
First, Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring on 29 minutes, before Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli added a second nine minutes later.
Given the opposition, it was perhaps a slightly underwhelming victory, but one which puts England top of Group F nonetheless.
The game also saw Manchester United star Marcus Rashford given a second-half cameo, and he was photographed embracing the Tottenham man at full time.
It was Alli’s second goal in six days, having also found the net in Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City last weekend.
The pair might be two of the best young players that England have at the moment, and the duo could both play big roles in Russia if and when England qualify for the World Cup in 2018, but it is certainly a case of so far so good for the Three Lions.
