West Bromwich Albion pulled off a stunning victory to keep their slim hopes of Premier League survival alive.
With relegation to the Championship still appearing to be on the cards, the West Brom board will know how vital it is that they get their next appointment right after the miserable tenure endured by Alan Pardew.
That report emerged before the Baggies’ latest game. And while Moore is still a long way off overseeing a great escape, Sunday’s result arguably makes it baffling that the board may be ready to discard Moore from the running for the job.
The 43-year-old may not have been a manager before, but he set West Brom up in the way that allowed them to go toe to toe with Manchester United and win 1-0 to deny Jose Mourinho’s men the chance to prolong the title race beyond the weekend.
Moore is clearly a hugely popular person amongst the players and fans, and that kind of galvanising figure could be perfect for the club as they look to bounce back at the earliest opportunity next season – despite the victory, it still seems incredibly unlikely that West Brom’s top flight status will be in the balance for much longer.
And perhaps one image from the game symbolises why the West Brom board would be mad to press ahead with their plans to snub Moore and look elsewhere.
The photo only depicts Moore standing alongside Mourinho on the touchline, but it represents the moment that the former West Brom defender stood toe to toe with one of the greatest tactical managers in the world and came out on top to give the fans something that they have not really had for a while – a bit of optimism about the future.
Here is some of the images from the game, including the one that shows Moore alongside Mourinho…
