Tottenham Hotspur were beaten comfortably by Premier League leaders Manchester City at the weekend.

While there is certainly no shame in losing to Manchester City this season, there is no question that Tottenham will be hugely disappointed with their attempt to end Pep Guardiola’s side’s stunning start to the campaign at the weekend as they came away from the Etihad Stadium having been beaten 4-1.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men were second-best throughout the contest and were fortunate to only be beaten by the three goals – with City squandering some brilliant chances and Christian Eriksen scoring Spurs’ only goal in stoppage-time.

It was certainly an evening that provided Spurs with a wake-up call after a run of three wins in all competitions that had seen Tottenham score 10 goals and concede just one in that time.
The loss now leaves Tottenham seventh in the table, 21 points off the Premier League summit and their title hopes appear to be in complete tatters – if they were not already.
And perhaps one photo below symbolises how City have taken their game to a completely different level while Tottenham have possibly stagnated – though, certainly not in Europe – with Danny Rose sent sprawling on the floor by former Spurs teammate Kyle Walker.
And Tottenham now need to focus on trying to get themselves back in the division’s top four when they take on Burnley – who sit one place and one point above Pochettino’s men – at the weekend.
