Leeds United fans must be left wondering what might have been.

Lewis Cook of England looks on during an England training session ahead of the International Friendly match between England and Brazil on November 13, 2017 in Enfield, England.

England took on Germany and Brazil during the most recent international break and manager Gareth Southgate had to get creative after multiple players pulled out of the squad. Plenty of uncapped players were therefore called up for duty as a consequence, including Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook.

It was a sight that left Leeds United fans both proud and perhaps bitter. He came through the ranks at Thorp Arch and looked to be a future Leeds captain in the making before making a big money move to the South Coast.

It was however an indicator of the talent available from West Yorkshire and no picture summed up that feeling more than the following…

Here you see Cook and Danny Rose laughing and joking whilst warming up at Wembley during the Brazil clash on Tuesday night. Rose, who has 14 caps for England, also started his career at Leeds. The Doncaster-born left-back began his career at Elland Road but was sold to Tottenham Hotspur after relegation to League One in 2007.

At the time Leeds needed the money but watching how he has developed into one of the best left-backs in the world cannot be easy for Leeds fans to stomach.

The club does continue to produce great youngsters, which is great to see. But looking at this picture, some Leeds fans will be left thinking, ‘what if?’
