Philippe Coutinho is recapturing his Liverpool form, according to Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard.
The former Liverpool attacker inspired Gerrard’s Villans side to a rousing victory over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
Coutinho scored one and assisted one of Aston Villa’s four goals during a ruthless performance.
Gerrard, who played alongside the Brazilian playmaker at Anfield, claimed afterwards via The Daily Mail that he’s getting back to the sort of influential player who won Red hearts on Merseyside during a five-year spell under Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.
After the game, the Barcelona loanee celebrated the victory by meeting injured Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
The duo played alongside one another at Bayern Munich.
Thiago has been out injured since last week.
The Spain international, a £20 million signing from Bayern in 2020, tweaked something in the warm-up prior to facing Chelsea in a Carabao Cup final at Wembley, ruling him out of the encounter.
Coutinho has been a revelation since joining Aston Villa and some Liverpool supporters might’ve even taken him back, after seeing his Premier League performances thus far.
However, Klopp’s outfit are firmly in the title race and if they go all the way then there’ll be no such talk of needing Coutinho back at Anfield.
