Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has sent a message to his former teammate Ashley Cole.
Following the news that Ashley Cole has signed a two-year deal with Italian side Roma, his former Chelsea colleagues have sent him messages of congratulations and thanks.
One in particular came from Cesar Azpilicueta – the player who replaced Cole in the Blues first-team last season.
‘It has been a real pleasure to play with you,’ the Spanish international wrote. ‘I have learnt a lot from you. I wish you all the best my friend.’
He certainly learnt enough from the former England international to ultimately take his place in the side, with the 24-year-old making 44 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side last season, with 23 of those coming as a left-back.
While Azpilicueta was enjoying a regular starting-berth, Cole sat out a total of 21 Premier League games, 15 of which were as an unused substitute.
He will be hoping his move to Serie A will mark a new beginning for an already impressive career, but it is clear that despite his form seemingly rendering Cole unnecessary at Stamford Bridge, Azpilicueta still owes him a debt of thanks.
