Arsenal midfielder witness to a major own goal from referee.
The opening day of the Premier League weekend saw a debut for ‘vanishing spray’ – but not all the referees got to grips with it easily.
This amusing photo from Arsenal’s win over Crystal Palace saw referee John Moss fire the spray into his own face – an embarrassing blunder which he will hope not to repeat.
He was not the only one to feel the pain of his own mistake, Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla was right next to him preparing to take a free kick, and caught a face-full too, as seen more clearly in the angle below.
It’s a positive to see referees being handed new initiatives like this one, designed to keep defending walls back 10 yards at set pieces, but hopefully for John Moss’s sake, he is able to handle it with more care in future.
