After damaging knee ligaments in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Tottenham, Granit Xhaka has been pictured recovering in the gym at London Colney.

In the background – as Arsenal Youth expert Jeorge Bird pointed out – is Jordan McEneff, a man who has endured a torrid time with injuries.

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old gem last played for the Gunners in October 2020.

McEneff lasted just five minutes against Liverpool’s Under-23 side on October 30th before being forced off with an injury.

It was a serious issue, one which has ruled him out for over a year.

In classy fashion, Arsenal extended his contract which had expired during his time in the treatment room, so he could focus on recovering without worrying about his future.

You can see the photo of the Ireland Under-17 international below.

In our view, the fact Arsenal extended his contract – even though he was injured – suggests the Gunners have high hopes for the midfielder.

What kind of player is Arsenal gem Jordan McEneff?

You might not know much about McEneff, seeing as he’s been out of the spotlight for so long.

However, he’s a brilliant prospect by the sounds of it.

In an interview with Arsenal’s official website, McEneff revealed that Under-18 coach Kwame Ampadu even nicknamed him ‘Besty’ – after George Best, of course.

The Londonderry-born maestro also told Arsenal that he feels his dribbling ability is his best asset.

That is particularly interesting, as it seems to allow him to perform effectively at right-midfield as well as in the middle.

Before his injury, McEneff made three appearances on the right and two in the centre of midfield, according to Transfermarkt.

Hopefully, he can get back to full fitness quickly, and continue where he left off in the Hale End Academy.
