Tottenham Hotspur ace Danny Rose and Arsenal’s Stephan Lichtsteiner clashed in an international friendly.

England’s friendly with Switzerland may have been a game that many fans had little interest in, but the clash at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night provided a brief glimpse of a battle that may next take place when Tottenham face Arsenal in the North London derby.

Spurs star Danny Rose was handed a start at left-back for the home side, and that role meant that his main adversary on the night was Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The duel between the Tottenham man and the Swiss was an intriguing one as it saw Rose come up against one of Arsenal’s summer signings before the first derby meeting of the season.

At the end of the evening, it was Rose who enjoyed the bragging rights as a Marcus Rashford goal shortly after the break handed Gareth Southgate’s men the win after three consecutive defeats for the World Cup semi-finalists.

The Tottenham man was superb on the night, picking up the man of the match award. And that perhaps explains why Lichtsteiner, at one stage, had to resort to wiping the Spurs man out just outside the box.

The clash – which was probably clumsy rather than malicious – came during the first-half and perhaps whets the appetite ever so slightly ahead of December’s meeting between Tottenham and Arsenal at the Emirates.

Here is the image that shows Rose being taken out by the Gunners man…
