Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has posted a picture on Twitter after handing Pope Francis a Leeds shirt, describing “his holiness” as “one special supporter”.

The Italian owner sent Leeds fans into a frenzy on Twitter by posting a picture of Leeds’ 2018-19 home shirt with Francesco, number one on the back.

Leeds have plenty of high-profile fans including the likes of Vinnie Jones and Russell Crowe, but The Pope surely ranks alongside the stature of those Leeds supporters.

Currently enjoying the international break in the Vatican City, Radrizzani uploaded a picture of him handing the shirt to The Pope, labelling the moment as an “emotional and unique moment”.

Leeds have started the Championship campaign in excellent fashion, remaining unbeaten after six games in the league despite facing promotion contenders Stoke City, Derby County and Middlesbrough as well as a trip to Norwich City.

They sit at the top of the pile going into the international break after wins over Stoke, Derby, Rotherham and Norwich, before facing bitter rivals Millwall on September 15 at The Den.
