Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min was in tears at the end of South Korea’s 2-1 win against Portugal on Friday that saw them qualify for the Round of 16 of the 2022 Qatar World Cup at the expense of Uruguay, as you can see on the Instagram post below.
Son, who is one of the best and most important players at Tottenham, was hugely emotional, as his South Korea side booked their place in the knockout rounds of the World Cup.
South Korea got the better of Portugal 2-1.
The Asian giants scored the winner in the first minute of injury time thanks to Hwang Hee-chan’s goal from a pass from Son.
Uruguay won 2-0 against Ghana in the other Group H match, but they finished third on goals scored.
Son has not had a great time at the 2022 Qatar World Cup so far, but he was instrumental in the goal that sent South Korea through.
And, as you can see from the photo below, the 30-year-old – described as “amazing” and “really special” by former Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino on BBC One (2:40pm, December 2, 2022) – was in tears at the success.
