The 28-year-old’s contract is set to expire in June, and the club are yet to make their mind up as to whether he will get a new deal.
If he is able to make any sort of positive impact over the next seven games then it would be easy to see Arsene Wenger, a big admirer of Diaby’s talent, engineering a way to keep the midfielder at the club.
Diaby played for the under-21s in midweek against Stoke and was impressive, providing an assist for young talent Alex Iwobi to score one of his three goals in the 4-0 win.
A start against Burnley this weekend seems beyond the realms of possibility, but even if he is an unused substitute, simply being back in the matchday squad would be huge progress.
