There’s been a lot of positivity surrounding Newcastle United in recent weeks.
Not only did Newcastle enjoy a brilliant January transfer window, typified by the signing of Bruno Guimaraes in a £30 million deal.
But on the pitch, Eddie Howe’s project is beginning to take shape in a major way.
The Magpies are now outside of the relegation zone and two points clear of Burnley, who have a game in hand.
All things considered, the outlook at St James’s Park is looking far more promising than in December.
And now there’s another piece of brilliant news for the Tyneside supporters.
Federico Fernandez was spotted in training at Benton on Wednesday ahead of their visit to Brentford on Saturday.
The Argentina international, named on the bench for the 1-1 draw at West Ham United last weekend, has been absent since December due to a thigh injury.
Here’s a photo of the 33-year-old – who cost £6 million under Rafael Benitez – in the session:

Newcastle are looking very solid in defence following the addition of Dan Burn.
Even when Fernandez is fully fit, he might not go straight back into Howe’s starting lineup, with the former Brighton powerhouse forging a brilliant partnership with Jamal Lascelles.
However, surviving relegation will be a squad effort, not a first XI effort, and no doubt Fernandez will be called upon eventually to contribute.
