Newcastle United announced on Tuesday that Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence had left the club.

Eddie Howe took over as Newcastle boss earlier this month following Steve Bruce’s dismissal in October.

But a number of Bruce’s staff members had stayed after the 61-year-old had left Newcastle.

Agnew and Clemence are among the coaching staff who did not immediately leave St James’s Park.

But the pair are now gone and one of their replacements, Simon Weatherstone, was phototgraphed in Eddie Howe’s latest training session in the North East.

Vital

Weatherstone and Stephen Purches were confirmed as part of Howe’s backroom staff earlier this week, along with sport scientist Dan Hodges.

Howe worked with all three at Bournemouth and, of course, Jason Tindall who joined Newcastle alongside the 43-year-old.

The new Magpies boss is gearing up for his coronation on Tyneside.

Brentford’s visit on Saturday will be Howe’s first game as Newcastle boss and three points is vital.

United are 19th in the Premier League table and five points adrift of safety as things stand.

If they’re going to stay up, then home visits of newly-promoted sides like the Bees really should be three points.

But Newcastle have struggled all season long, having not won a game since last term, and there is no such thing as a banker when you’re in this sort of form.
