It looks like Omar Rekik is adapting pretty well to life at Arsenal.

The Gunners only announced that they had signed the former Hertha Berlin defender on Thursday and he was straight into Steve Bould’s training at London Colney.

A day later, the 19-year-old was promoted to Mikel Arteta’s senior training, going by images from the club’s complex on Friday.

One picture captured the physical presence that Rekik boasts, as he towered above the 5’10 Spaniard yesterday:

Arsenal kick off the defence of their FA Cup title tonight against Newcastle United, but Rekik won’t be involved.

There’s clearly high hopes for the teenage centre-half in North London but this was more a signing for the future, rather than one for the now.

Eighteen-year-old Miguel Azeez has impressed Arteta in recent months, prompting the Spanish coach to give him his debut in a 4-2 Europa League win in Dublin last month.

And although there’s a lot of pressure on Arsenal against the Magpies, being the reigning champions, Arteta might experiment with one or two youth players – including the 18-year-old.
