Some Liverpool fans might have forgotten about Billy Koumetio.
There was a lot of buzz regarding the 18-year-old defender last summer following some powerful pre-season displays for the Reds under Jurgen Klopp.
In fact, the German nicknaming him ‘Billy the Kid’ only illustrated that Klopp clearly has a lot of affection for him.
And given Liverpool’s shortage of centre-backs this season, due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, some supporters were surprised that Klopp never turned to the big Frenchman.
Instead, he turned to some slightly more experienced figures – like Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips – but Koumetio remains a very exciting prospect and he was photographed training with Klopp’s senior side today.
In one situation, Koumetio’s physical presence is obvious as he towered well above Thiago Alcantara in a number of pictures.

The goal for the teenage star will be to get a senior loan away from Liverpool next term.
It’s possible – and probable, in fact – that a couple of established central defenders will be signed this summer, which will make it much tougher to break into Klopp’s senior side next season.
He clearly needs experience in men’s football and if he’ll more than likely get it, somewhere.
