Newcastle United and Leeds United are among those linked with a transfer to sign Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell.
The Sun reported last week that Leeds and the Magpies were keen on purchasing the 23-year-old, who’s valued at £15 million.
Cantwell has managed only five Premier League starts for the Canaries this season.
It remains to be seen whether he winds up leaving Carrow Road, but Cantwell has stuck something interesting on Instagram.
The English midfielder posted the words: “If you don’t know, don’t pretend you do.”
Unhappy?
It’s difficult to provide context.
But considering the transfer speculation, and his lack of regular football [he has been injured, too] it’s probable that this social media message is an indication that things aren’t well for him at City right now.
This is a player who in 2020 was being linked with transfers to Liverpool, strangely enough.
There’s no denying his talent and given his prior Premier League form you can certainly understand why Leeds and Newcastle – among others – want to sign him.
But honestly, he doesn’t fit the bill for the St James’s Park outfit.
Newcastle’s strategy in the January transfer window is clear – sign players with Premier League experience, like Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.
However, Cantwell only has 45 top-flight appearances under his belt and therefore, Leeds, who do take punts like this under Marcelo Bielsa, is probably the more likely destination.
