Dwight Gayle has been pictured back in training for Newcastle after a lengthy period on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The former Crystal Palace striker – who cost Newcastle £10 million – last played in a pre-season friendly against Crewe on August 25th, where he suffered a serious knee injury according to The Chronicle.

Sadly for the ex-Peterborough forward, it resulted in months in the wilderness when he perhaps would’ve hoped to kick on after netting against Liverpool on the final day of last season.

Now, however, after failing to even appear on the bench once this term, Steve Bruce has the 30-year-old back in first-team training among the rest of the pack.

It will be nice for Bruce to have his No.12 back, as he offers a slightly different option to the likes of Joelinton and Callum Wilson, who are more robust and physical.

Here’s another photo of the London-born forward looking rather serious on his return to first-team training.

Presumably, Bruce won’t want to rush the striker back into action after he spent so much time out.

Luckily, with the in-form Wilson up front, and Joelinton finding his feet after a great display at Selhurst Park, the Magpies boss has no need to hurry Gayle.
