Rangers defender Philippe Senderos has told the club’s official website they will always be the best team on the pitch so long as they score first.

The Gers have had a difficult start to the season, picking up just 12 points from their first eight games.

They returned to winning ways last weekend as they comfortably beat Partick Thistle 2-0 at Ibrox.

The key to them winning the game was the fact they took the lead early when Niko Kranjcar opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.

It was one of the rare times they have taken the lead in a game this season and Senderos says that they will be the best team on the pitch if they do grab that opening goal more often.

“We haven’t had the first goal too many times this season and it was good to get that,” he told the club’s official website.

“We got confidence from that and I think that if we can do that, get on the front foot and score the first goal we will always be the best team on the pitch.”

The defender has also shared his delighted at enjoying success on his home debut.

The Swiss centre-back returned to the team in the place of Clint Hill, who had been partnered with Danny Wilson in the heart of the Gers defence for the last three matches.

Three points and a clean sheet mean he enjoyed his first game at Ibrox and he says he is hoping to keep his place in the coming months.

“It was great to get back into the team and to get a game, hopefully, I can stay in there,” he added.

“The boys who have played in my position have done really well and they deserved to stay in at the moment. I was really pleased to get back and in to get the win and the clean sheet.”
