The defender only joined Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side in the summer.

Philippe Senderos has insisted that he has not been surprised by the level of expectation at Rangers, the Evening Times reports.

The 31-year-old arrived at Ibrox in the summer having played for several high-profile sides throughout his career, including Arsenal, Valencia and Aston Villa.

But he has struggled to prove himself since his move to the Gers. A poor performance on his debut in the Old Firm game was capped off by a red card that followed a calamitous handball.

But while some may believe that the level of expectation may have been a key reason for his shaky start, Senderos has claimed that he knew what he was letting himself in for when he joined.

“This is a big football club. Everyone knows the expectation and knows what it takes to be at the top and we are going to try and do just that,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“No, not really [the expectation levels have not surprised me]. I knew Rangers were a massive club.

“I am lucky enough to have played in teams in similar situations in their country so I know what it takes. I hope I can continue and do that.”

Despite his testing start, Senderos put in a solid display when he was recalled to the side for their 2-0 win over Partick, which suggests that he may be able to put the difficult debut behind him over the coming months.

And with his experience at the highest level, he is arguably one of the players that Mark Warburton will want to keep in his squad to help the Light Blues get back towards the summit of the table.
