Nottingham Forest were dumped out of the FA Cup by Wigan this afternoon.
Nottingham Forest are out of the FA Cup after a 2-0 loss to Wigan Athletic earlier today. It was a poor performance from Philippe Montanier’s side that summed up their recent run of bad form and the general ill feeling around the City Ground at present.
Forest have now lost six of their last seven games in all competitions and fans of the club have lost patience with the management of Frenchman Montanier – and some of his bizarre tactical decisions.
Britt Assombalonga celebrates after scoring the first goal for Nottingham Forest
Today fans were again left frustrated, especially with the decision to bring off their main goal threat Britt Assombalonga for Lica after just 56 minutes.
Soon after Wigan scored their second and Forest did not look likely to get back into the game without Assombalonga on the pitch.
Speaking to BBC Nottingham Sport after the game Montanier had this explanation for why Assombalonga came off:
“It was to protect him.
“We have to be careful because I want to preserve him for a long time.”

It was a decision that baffled Forest fans, who were already disappointed to see Henri Lansbury was not featuring and the out of form Nicolao Dumitru and Nicklas Bendtner featuring.
Assombalonga has been struggling with fitness throughout the campaign, which makes the decision understandable, but the decision to bring him off so early and for the almost anonymous Lica hit a nerve.
It certainly seems like change is needed for Forest to turn around this current form.
