Philippe Coutinho’s wife, Ainê, has praised Aston Villa fans for sticking with the team despite their 1-0 defeat to Watford on Saturday.

It was a game to forget, once again, for Steven Gerrard’s side, who managed to have 20 attempts on goal, but they only managed to muster one on target against the Hornets.

Ainê posted on Instagram that the result at the weekend was ‘not as expected’, but the fans are ‘always the same’.

For a number of weeks now, Villa have, not only lost or dropped points against a team below them, but produced a performance to forget.

After the abject display at St James’ Park, Gerrard shared that he would make changes for the Watford game.

The keyword being ‘changes’, but instead, it was only one change from that Newcastle defeat and that was Danny Ings coming in for Ollie Watkins.

That didn’t work out because the midfield was off-colour again and the fullbacks have regressed in recent weeks.

Villa’s next stop is a trip to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton and it will be interesting to see what Gerrard does next.

Fans are crying out for the likes of Morgan Sanson and Carney Chukwuemeka to earn some starts.

The main issue is the middle of the park and Gerrard needs to freshen it up, else this current campaign, as early as February, will peter out to nothing.
