Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has put the injury woes of last season behind him as he will be ready to produce the goods for Liverpool ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
It was quite a remarkable season for Liverpool during the 2018/19 campaign as they came ever so close to the Premier League title, but they proved their worth by becoming European Champions.
Throughout that season, one thing that was constantly mentioned about Jurgen Klopp’s team is that the midfield was too similar and there was no-one providing them with something different.
The one-man that could do that was £35 million 2017 signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain [BBC Sport], but he was on the sidelines with an injury.
All that talk from last season has seemingly resulted in the summer rumour mill claiming that Philippe Coutinho could be making a return to the club.
Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato have claimed that Liverpool have tabled a stunning bid for the Barcelona man.
Whilst Liverpool need a player of Coutinho’s touch and attacking movement in the middle of the park, they have already proven what they can do without him.
Plus, the player to provide that attacking spark from the middle of the park is already at the club, so a potential Coutinho signing would result in Oxlade-Chamberlain seriously losing out in proving his worth ahead of the new campaign.
There’s no doubt that Klopp needs more depth in his squad, especially from an attacking standpoint, but if he had a choice of providing the midfield key to Oxlade-Chamberlain or Coutinho then the answer should be a simple one.
