The German has replaced the Belgian goalkeeper as Liverpool’s number one this season.

Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has admitted to Sky Sports that he would still rather have Simon Mignolet in goal instead of Loris Karius.
The German arrived at the club in the summer transfer window in a move from Jurgen Klopp’s former team Mainz.
It was felt he was being brought to the club as a direct replacement for Mignolet, who once again struggled for his best form last season.

After missing the start of the season with a broken hand Karius has replaced the Belgian in the team but so far he has failed to wholly convince fans and pundits alike that the decision to drop Mignolet was the right one.
And Thompson has admitted that he would still prefer the former number one between the sticks.
“I still think he’s got a lot to do to convince many Liverpool fans. I would have kept Mignolet in there. I would certainly rather have Mignolet,” he told Sky Sports.

It remains to be seen if Karius does remain as the Liverpool number one for the remainder of the season.
So far he has not wholly impressed, but given his team’s winning form Klopp is unlikely to want to change things anytime soon.
Their defensive record is a concern though, with just one clean sheet all season and 11 goals conceded already, the most of any of the top four teams.
And if that continues perhaps he will deem if necessary to give Mignolet another chance to impress.
