Phil Thompson was impressed with new Tottenham Hotspur signing Davinson Sanchez’s performance for Ajax against Manchester United in the Europa League final last season.

Tottenham have signed Sanchez from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer transfer window for a fee that could be worth up to £40 million, according to Sky Sports.
Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are the two regular centre-backs for Spurs, and are two of the best players in the position in the world.

Sanchez is immensely gifted and has a lot of potential, and in the coming years he could establish himself in the Tottenham starting lineup.
The 21-year-old centre-back enjoyed a successful season on a personal level for Ajax last season.
Former Liverpool centre-back Thompson has spoken highly of the Colombia international, having watched him play for Ajax against Manchester United in the Europa League final last season.
The former England international, though, believes that Sanchez knows that he will not be a starter for Tottenham.

“The boy is a good player,” said Thompson about Sanchez on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News last Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, August 19, 2017).
“I have seen him against Manchester United, Europa League final. He jumps unbelievable.
“He is great header of the ball and he runs like the wind. He is a good defender, I think he is all right. I think he knows he is not going to be a starter.”
