Liverpool legend is excited for Naby Keita to play a role next season.
Liverpool agreed a deal with RB Leipzig last summer which will see Keita join in July.
Thompson says he has been watching Keita recently and believes he can offer Liverpool a completely new dimension.
He said: “I was watching him against just last week in the Europa League and my goodness, this guy will probably give us what we’ve lacked.
“In that three behind the front three – he gives you goals, he gives you assists, he gives you energy and he’s a nasty little character.
“There is only James Milner who will really put his foot in and I think this guy could be a real sensation in the Premier League.”
Keita has been outstanding for the last two seasons for Leipzig and Liverpool hope he can help turn them into title challengers.
Their progress to the Champions League semi-finals shows the quality they have in their squad, although there has just been some consistency lacking in the Premier League.
Naby Keita’s combative style makes him ideally suited for playing in England, although he is prone to red cards. If he can keep his discipline in check, then he will prove an outsanding addition.
