Georginio Wijnaldum is an important player for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The former Liverpool central defender compared Wijnaldum to his former Anfield teammate Ray Kennedy.
Kennedy was on the books of the Reds from 1974 until 1982, and won the league title five times and the European Cup on three occasions among other major titles.
Thompson compares Wijnaldum to Kennedy, and believes that the Netherlands international midfielder should be the first midfielder on manager Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet.
Thompson said about Wijnaldum on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday afternoon (12:36pm, February 16, 2019): “We had a player Ray Kennedy, who was absolutely incredible. Fans would forever complain about him, but we as players and coaches knew exactly he was a tremendous player, very clever positionally.
“I think this fellow is just the same. This fellow is so important to this side that I think out of all the midfielders he is the first name, should be the first name, on the list. He possesses great knowledge and awareness of where he is at any given time on a pitch.”

Stats
Wijnaldum has been on the books of Liverpool since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Newcastle United for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £25 million.
The 28-year-old midfielder has made 21 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season, scoring two goals in the process, according to WhoScored.
Liverpool are challenging for the Premier League title, as well as for the Champions League crown.
