The Foxes have begun this Premier League season – Brendan Rodgers’ first full one at the King Power Stadium – superbly.

Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has spoken very highly of Leicester City following their superb start to the 2019-20 Premier League season, praising them for “playing some wonderful stuff” and hailing the “terrific” Caglar Soyuncu for stepping up following Harry Maguire’s departure (Sporting Life).

The Foxes entered the international break fourth in the Premier League table, with four wins and two draws from their eight games so far, and even in their two losses, away at Manchester United and Liverpool, they put in very good displays, only being denied a draw at least by penalties, and could easily have taken something from either game.

When it came to picking his team of the season so far, Thompson – a Liverpool legend and huge fan of the Anfield club – surprisingly opted against officially naming Jurgen Klopp’s side as his pick, instead giving them an honourable mention at the start of his column, before going on to say that he fancies the Foxes to break the top six come May.

“Liverpool is the easiest one to say with eight wins on the trot, but I have to say Leicester have been the highlight from the Premier League sides,” Thompson is quoted by Sporting Life as saying. “The players they’ve got are not too different from Claude Puel’s team, with Harry Maguire leaving too, yet they are playing some wonderful stuff. It is a loss but I am not going to say it is a massive loss as Caglar Soyuncu has been terrific.

“Individuals have all upped their game, and Brendan Rodgers has implemented slightly differing tactics, so they have been the surprise package. People were asking who was going to be the team that would disrupt the ‘big six’. The strides that Leicester have made have been incredible and I fancy them to do that.”

Leicester are back in action on Saturday as they host Burnley at the King Power Stadium.
