Liverpool are currently level at the top of the Premier League table.
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has praised manager Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports, saying the German is the number one reason they can win the title this season.
The Reds have started the season in superb fashion, winning seven of their first ten games and losing just one, a surprise defeat to Burnley.
That leaves them level at the top of the Premier League alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.
It is looking likely that the reds will be contenders for the title this year, with some believing their lack of European football gives them a major advantage over their rivals.
For Thompson, though, Klopp is the main factor that will make his team contenders this season.
“He’s dynamic, charismatic, he has everybody believing, the fans, the players, he seems to work so well with them,” he told Sky Sports.
“They are able to prepare for games, they have great recovery time, and you can feel it here for Anfield at home games. He is probably the most important thing. He has to be the number one reason.”
If Liverpool are to be champions this season then Klopp will have to focus his efforts on improving their current defensive record.
The Reds have conceded 13 goals in their first ten games so far this season, the worst record of the top six teams.
A fragile defence was what ultimately cost them when Brendan Rodgers’ team came close and they will need to improve drastically in that regard to ensure they end up as champions come May.
