Liverpool will surely be looking to strengthen their options once again this summer.
Phil Thompson suggested that Liverpool need to buy a creative midfielder this summer, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports.
The Reds enjoyed a superb Premier League campaign this season, taking 97 points from their 38 games, but they eventually came up just short in the race for the title.
Jurgen Klopp’s side do still have a Champions League final to look forward to, however, and whatever happens in Madrid, it will be hard to argue that they have not been mightily impressive this season.
Liverpool will, of course, still need to improve upon what they already have this summer, however.
And Thompson believes that there is one area on particular where Klopp needs to strengthen.
The Liverpool legend urged the German to buy a creative midfielder, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:
“If Liverpool can, I would look at a creative midfield player. It’s like in midfield, we have a lot of players who are quite similar. We need someone with a creative spark and to give us more goals from that department.”
Liverpool spent heavily last summer, but whether the club’s board will be prepared to go big once again remains to be seen.
The Reds seem to be on the verge of achieving something very special, however, and if they are to reach that next level, the addition of a creative midfielder certainly would not go a miss.
