Liverpool legend Phil Thompson said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday afternoon (5:20pm, February 16, 2019) that Nottingham Forest are not going to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.

The former Liverpool and England international central defender made the comments following Forest’s goalless draw with Preston North End away from home in the Championship this past Saturday afternoon.

Thompson was following the match for Sky Sports, and he does not believe that Preston or Forest will end up in the playoffs this campaign.

Thompson said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News this past Saturday afternoon (5:20pm, February 16, 2019) when asked if Preston and Forest can make a late push for the playoffs: “I wouldn’t think so.”

Promotion push

Forest are eighth in the Championship table at the moment with 47 points from 33 matches, six points behind sixth-placed Bristol City.

The Reds have been inconsistent all season, and that is the main reason why they are not in the top six at the moment.

With just six points separating them from the Championship top six, Martin O’Neill’s side can certainly make a late push for the playoffs.

Forest will take on Derby County at the City Ground in the Championship next Monday.
