Phil Thompson has has told Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 6th April, that he doesn’t believe Ruben Neves has had a great season for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Neves was a major reason why Wolves earned promotion from the Championship last term, and there was great anticipation about the damage he could do in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international has continued to play regularly for Wolves this term.

However, Thompson claims that Neves has not taken the division by storm like his midfield partner, Joao Moutinho.

He said; “You bring in Moutinho, who I know he’s about 30, but what a player. Everyone goes on about Neves, but I don’t think he’s had a great season. But Moutinho is fantastic.”

Neves has, perhaps, not been as influence for Wolves this season as he was during the previous campaign, but his talent has still remained evident.

Neves has hit three goals in his 29 Premier League appearances for Wolves and still plays a vital role for Nuno’s side.

Wolves have enjoyed an excellent first season back in the top flight, and currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League table.

Neves will be action with Wolves later today, when Nuno’s side take on Watford in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
