Sky Sports Soccer Saturday pundit Phil Thompson has offered an assessment of Calum Chambers debut for Middlesbrough in the loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
The defender joined Aitor Karanka’s side in the summer transfer window as he moved on loan from Arsenal in the search of first team football.
He has had to wait for his chance and was handed his debut on Saturday afternoon in the clash with Spurs. It proved to be an unhappy debut for him though as Mauricio Pochettino’s side ran out 2-1 winners.

Thompson was analysing that game and offered his assessment of how the Gunners loanee performed.
“He’s always got a rick in him I’m afraid. It could have been very costly, but he did alright,” he told Sky Sports.

A look at the stats from the game show that Thompson’s assessment may be a little bit harsh.
Chambers managed to win five tackles and seven interceptions in the game, both of which were the second most managed by any Boro player.
He also posted six defensive duels and seven ball recoveries, the latter of which was again the second most by any Middlesbrough man.
Those are decent numbers for a debutant and show Chambers was probably better on the day than the Sky Sports pundit’s comments would suggest.
