Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson has suggested to The Bolton News that reported Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton target Luca Connell will not leave on January transfer deadline day.

According to The Bolton News, Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League are leading the race for Connell.

The report has also claimed that Tottenham, Southampton and Burnley are watching the 17-year-old midfielder.

The youngster, who can also operate as a defender, has six months left on a second-year scholar’s contract at Bolton and has yet to sign professional terms with the Championship club.

Bolton boss Parkinson has said that the teenager will not leave the club this month despite reported interest in him.

Parkinson told The Bolton News about Connell: “He will be here at the end of the week. There will be people watching him, obviously.

“When you are a young player making a debut on Friday, play so well, then back it up with another good performance, of course that will happen.

“He’s a great player and we are looking forward to seeing him here for a long time to come, hopefully.”

Bolton Wanderers stay

Connell is only 17 years of age, and it will make sense for the teenager to stay at Bolton and continue his footballing development.

The youngster is still at least a couple of years away from getting first-team chances at his reported Premier League suitors Tottenham, Southampton, Burnley and Brighton.
