BBC pundit Phil Neville was full of praise for Jack Grealish after Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over West Ham.

BBC pundit Phil Neville told Match of the Day on Saturday night that Aston Villa star Jack Grealish ‘has the confidence to go a long way’.

Villa continued their sensational form under manager Tim Sherwood, with the former Spurs boss revitalising a Villa side who were dreadful under Paul Lambert.

This time, Villa beat West Ham United 1-0 at Villa Park, with Tom Cleverley scoring the only goal of the game with a finish from close range in the first half.

Cleverley can take the plaudits for the goal, but the creation was all down to Villa youngster Grealish, who continues to show his potential under Sherwood.

The Birmingham-born playmaker joined Villa at the age of six, and now at 19, Grealish is flourishing in the first team with Sherwood at the helm – ironic given how reluctant Paul Lambert was to give him a chance in the starting XI.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was once again the star man as Villa beat West Ham, causing the Hammers problems throughout the afternoon.

With many lauding Grealish for his recent performances, former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has joined that particular queue, telling Match of the Day that Grealish has the perfect manager to nurture him in Sherwood, and believes Grealish has the potential to be a real star.

“He’s got great awareness, he’s always on the move, his range of passing is absolutely fantastic and he can see players out of the corner of his eye,” said Neville.

“He’s got the perfect manager now, who believes in young players, and he’s got the confidence to go a long way,” he added.
