The Newcastle United goalkeeper has been praised by the Valencia assistant.
Former defender and pundit Phil Neville says Newcastle United shot stopper Tim Krul is the most underrated Premier League goalkeeper ever.
Indeed, the former Manchester United and Everton man took to Twitter to conduct a quick Q + A with fans on Friday afternoon and was asked who the Premier League’s most underrated ‘keeper is.
And, without hesitation, Neville responded on social media with the name of Newcastle’s current – but injured – no.1.
Newcastle may not necessarily be feeling Krul’s absence right now, with Rob Elliot standing in well since the Dutchman got injured.
| 2011-15 | Team | Saves | Appearances |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simon Mignolet | Liverpool / Sunderland | 928 | 306 |
| Asmir Begovic | Chelsea / Stoke | 820 | 276 |
| Tim Howard | Everton | 816 | 310 |
| Tim Krul | Newcastle | 812 | 272 |
| David de Gea | Man Utd | 802 | 278 |
But, as Opta stats show, the 27-year-old has made a definitive impact in the Premier League. Indeed, since the start of the 2011/12 season, Krul has made more saves than any other shot stopper bar three.
Simon Mignolet, Asmir Begovic, Tim Howard and David de Gea complete the top five but Krul has played far less minutes than Mignolet and Howard.
The Dutchman’s knee injury, suffered on international duty, was a big blow for Newcastle earlier this season but the Magpies have so far been lucky with their cover.
