Pundit critical of Tottenham’s preference for doing business late.
Phil Neville has called out Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy by criticising his preference for doing transfer business late.
Spurs waited until after the season kicked off to sign players, recently adding defender Davinson Sanchez and back-up goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
Together they have so far combined to play just one minute of Premier League football over the past three games.
More signings are expected to follow, but Neville last night told SkySports that signing players late is costing Tottenham points.
Spurs have four points from their first three games, losing to Chelsea and drawing with Burnley.
Speaking to SkySports’ The Debate (28/8 10pm), Neville said: “They slip up buying late, they lost to Chelsea, and have dropped points.
“I know Levy likes to get best deal for his football club, but buying late means you don’t have a settled squad. I think he’s costing Tottenham.”
Spurs are regular buyers late in the transfer window, and could look back and rue these dropped early points.
In previous seasons Spurs have bought late as they have sold players close to the deadline, but this year they cashed in Kyle Walker in mid-July.
If Spurs do miss out on the title or even a top four place by a couple of points, they may well rue their start to the season, but there are still 35 games remaining and the Lilywhites are not the only top team to flounder early on.
