Phil Neville says Burnley deserve a lot of credit for their victory against Chelsea

Burnley won 2-3 against Chelsea in their opening Premier League match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Burnley stunned everyone with a shock 3-2 win over defending Champions Chelsea in their opening game away at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has hailed the victory as the “performance of the weekend”.

He says that while the attention has been shifted towards Chelsea’s issues and the bigger wins elsewhere, Burnley deserve a lot of credit for defeating the Champions at their home ground.

Interestingly, Burnley managed only one win away from home last season. From that point of view, it is indeed remarkable to score three goals at the Bridge and seal three points.

“Burnley put in the performance of the weekend for me,” says Phil Neville to Sky Sports. “They might not get many plaudits because of Chelsea’s issues and the bigger wins elsewhere, but to beat the champions after only winning away once last season deserves a lot of credit.

Recently, football pundit Tony Cascarino noted that Burnley’s success is down to Sean Dyche’s well-drilled management and system. They are a hard working side and does the job effectively.

Burnley have lost two top players this summer, with Michael Keane and Andre Gray moving to Everton and Watford respectively.

The Clarets have signed four players this summer already, and are looking to add more players before the transfer window closes. They face West Bromwich Albion in their next game in the Premier League at Turf Moor.
