Pundit lauds Tottenham Hotspur boss and says he would be an ideal replacement for Jose Mourinho.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side earned a big victory over Chelsea last night at White Hart Lane, beating the league leaders 2-0.

It was further evidence of Tottenham’s capability to mix it at the top of the table and keeps them alive in the title race.

Pochettino continues to enhance his own reputation, having masterminded a defeat of Manchester City earlier in the season when Pep Guardiola’s side had seemed as infallible as Chelsea did heading into last night’s fixture.

Former England international Phil Neville was among those to praise the Tottenham boss last night via Twitter, even if spelling did not prove to be his strong point.

Neville was then taken to task by former opponent Jamie Carragher, who put him on the spot and asked him if he would want Pochettino at Manchester United – in place of current boss Jose Mourinho.

The former United player simply replied that he would have him at Old Trafford happily after Mourinho, to which Carragher had a quick response.

Neville responded by stating he hopes United can win two league titles within that time span, before Carragher ridiculed him by taking a shot at his spell as David Moyes’ assistant at Old Trafford.

Fortunately for Tottenham they do not have to worry about Mauricio Pochettino’s future, with Carragher and Neville’s supposition purely hypothetical. The head coach signed a new contract at Spurs last May which runs up until 2021.

Pochettino’s long term building is the opposite end of the spectrum to Mourinho’s quick fix approach, but as Carragher ruthlessly pointed out, he would potentially have been a better appointment at Old Trafford in 2013 than David Moyes turned out to be.
