Everton are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City.

Phil Neville has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT, that he believes Gylfi Sigurdsson’s price tag is largely irrelevant.

With the transfer market so inflated, Swansea City are said to be asking for £50 million for Sigurdsson by the Liverpool Echo.

However, even at that price, Neville believes that Everton would be making a smart purchase by bringing Sigurdsson to Goodison Park.

“It’s a lot of money, but I don’t think we should pay much attention to price tag,” the former Toffees defender said.

“What Everton will get if they get Sigurdsson is they will get someone who produces assists a lot, is brilliant from set pieces and is difficult to mark.

“Everton have done the best business and if any club are to break the stranglehold of the top six, you think it’s Everton.”

Sigurdsson has been left off Swansea’s pre-season tour, and looks set to leave the Welsh side in the near future.

If Everton do manage to secure a deal for Sigurdsson, as expected, it will help to further strengthen Ronald Koeman’s attacking options.

Everton have been one of the most active teams in the Premier League, with a whole host of new players joining in the summer so far.

The Toffees have made no secret of their desire to challenge for a European spot in the upcoming campaign, after they finished in an encouraging seventh place last time around.
