Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman were the goalscorers for the Toffees at Goodison Park.
Former Everton and Manchester United star Neville was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of Barkley.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder started the game at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon and played for 90 minutes.

Barkley is a very good player, and his performance against City suggests that he is getting it right under Ronald Koeman, who was appointed the Everton manager in the summer of 2016.
The Merseyside outfit will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on London club Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.
